Top 5… London movies

As we are in the middle of the London 2012 Olympics it seemed fitting to produce a movie top 5 related in some way. So as most sport movies are American based I thought I would go with the best films set in London or where the our capital city plays a significant role.

5. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Spies in London hunting for moles. London is grey and haunting in this brilliant adaptation of John le Carré’s novel.

4. A Clockwork Orange

London looks battered, bruised and over-run by hooligan’s in Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece social commentary.

3. An Education

Carey Mulligan’s young beauty is shown the beauty of London and beyond in this surprisingly fantastic coming of age drama.

2. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

Four cockney nobodies have to raise £500,000 very quickly or suffer the consequences in Guy Ritchie’s loud, clever and funny calling card.

1. The Long Good Friday

Bob Hoskins is a gangsters on the verge of a deal to turn his business legitimate in the London Docklands. But when the IRA get involved things go badly wrong. Phenomenal film.
