Top 5… George Clooney Films

With the latest Clooney film now playing at the cinema and getting rave reviews (including from me) I thought I would list my top 5 Clooney films.

5. From Dusk Till Dawn

This may not have been Clooney’s big screen debut but it was the film that proved he was more than just a cute ER doctor. Covered in tattoos and a bad-ass attitude he is far and away the highlight of this very tongue-in-cheek vampire movie from Rodriguez and Tarantino.

4. Michael Clayton

George Clooney is the titular “fixer” in this film who is sent in by a law firm to resolve a troublesome situation when one of their employees has a nervous breakdown in the middle of a high profile, multi-million dollar class action suit. Clooney is brilliant as he tries to straddle the line between doing the right thing, helping his friend and serving the company who pays his bills.

3. Ocean’s Eleven

This film is probably the best example of why Clooney is one of the best stars on the market. Even when he is put on screen against Hollywood’s greatest hitters (Pitt, Damon, Roberts and more) he comes out on top and in control. Soderbergh’s take on the heist movie is an absolute riot and there’s a good reason it has produced two sequels.

2. Up In The Air

George’s job is to fly around the country and fire people. He has a home he never sees and doesn’t have time for a family. Then when his company decides to go digital and grounds him the world he knows and loves is turned upside down. Clooney is absolutely mesmerising.

1. The Descendants

And finally we have The Descendants. I think I said enough in my review already but suffice to say Clooney has never been better. It’s been a week since I saw it now and I can’t wait to be able to see it again. The question is can Clooney go even better is a future role? My prediction is he is nowhere near hitting his peak yet.

Honourable Mentions

The Thin Red Line – Even though he is only in it for a matter of seconds, he stands out in this amazing war film.
O Brother, Where Art Thou? – Clooney + Coens = Hilarity.
Syriana – Sporting a serious actor beard, Clooney deserved his best supporting actor Oscar.
Out Of Sight – A film I like but not as much as everyone else. I can’t deny the chemistry between Clooney and Lopez though.

  1. “…cure ER doctor…”. Pun intended?

  2. I’m planning on seeing The Descendants on Tuesday night next week, when I’m back, as I have a spare £5. :)
Ocean’s Eleven is the film on your list that I have seen. :)
