Pyford

May 9th 2009

I had the opportunity to visit my parents on the bank holiday weekend and I managed to convince them to come out for a walk on the Sunday afternoon. It was helped by the promise of a pub half way along but in the end they really enjoyed themselves.

We visited a village called Pyrford near Guildford, where our walk took us through the village, over some fields, over a golf course and along the Wey Canal. It was a beautiful day too and was well worth it. My parents even seemed keen to go on more walks next time I visit.

Beautiful! A wander through the trees A good weir A lovely end to the walk

A Walk Around the Cricklade Countryside

April 12th 2009

CrickladeLiving in Swindon, I had always noticed a little town called Cricklade just up the A419. I had driven through it on my way up towards the M5 a couple of times and had always thought it looked like a pleasant place. So, this Saturday, I decided late in the day to pay it a little visit.

With my map in hand I set off on a gorgous 5 mile trek along the Thames path, disused canal and old railway line, through fields and quaint villages. The weather was cool but sunny and it was late in the day which meant less people and more peace and quiet.

I was on my own for this one so it gave me an opportunity to listen to some Christian teaching, reflect and give my parents a call.

Corsham Court

March 15th 2009

Corsham CourtWhen I used to live in Bath and commute to Swindon I would travel along the A4 and pass through Corsham every day. Today was the first time I turned off of the A4 and took a look at what Corsham was all about.

First on the agenda was a wander around the shops of Corsham. I wouldn’t say it had a lot to offer but there was a lovely little greengrocers (a rarity these days) and a nice deli.

Next came the main event: a trip into Corsham Court. The inside of the huge property was lined with numerous works of art. It was excellent to have a wander round and view all the beautiful pieces that had on display. Sadly no pictures were allowed so I couldn’t show you any of the huge paintings they had hanging on the walls.

After this a wander around the grounds was called for. This was more beautiful than the insides! The grounds were filled with peacocks and little nooks and crannies filled with all manor of beautiful trees and plants. I recommend you have a look at the pictures of the day in my gallery.

I do like my Saturday trips out to see some of the amazing things England has to offer.

Donnington Castle

February 22nd 2009

Today was beautiful. After all the snow and cold we have had recently it was a pleasure to wake up to proper sunshine. So, what do you do on a rare Saturday like this? Go for a ramble of course!

After a short drive to Newbury it was time for a 3 mile Hike around some lovely, early-spring countryside.

The highlight of the walk had to be Donningtion Castle…
