Cinema Reviews – Loser men, naked men and amazing spider men
Three films this week, The Five-Year Engagement, Magic Mike and The Amazing Spider-Man. Sadly all as average as average gets.
Goodbye Motorola Milestone, hello Asus Padfone
Three years ago I remember opening my brand new Motorola Milestone (Motorola Droid in the USA) android phone and it totally changing my life. I suddenly had access to so much information and so many services wherever I was.
It started to show its age after two years though and was struggling to run all the apps I needed it to. It was time to hunt for a new phone. Read more »
Top 5… Trilogies
The Dark Knight Rises promises to end Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy in style when it opens on Friday so here is my rundown of the best trilogies of all time. Here are my rules:
- To make it a trilogy there needs to be a solid thread tying the films together, Park Chan-wook’s “Vengeance trilogy” are not strongly connected enough to count.
- There must be no fourth in the series, the Alien Quadrilogy is out.
- Prequels and reboots don’t count towards a trilogy so the X-Men films are in (although unlikely to make an appearance).
Highlights of the week
In this week’s highlights we have Lego masterpieces, Apple typewriters, scanners that will know everything about you and the illusive Higgs Boson explained.
Cinema Review: Two mates and a baby
Just one film this week but it’s a good one, Friends with Kids.
Top 5… Reboots
For some reason the Spider-Man films are being rebooted only 5 years after the last one was made. This seemed like a good time to follow up my top 5 prequels with my top 5 reboots.
Highlights of the week
It’s a good week this week. There are interviews from the future, open-source hardware, floating LEDs and very, very stupid people!
Cinema reviews: Black leather, silver axes, dark glasses and a red apple
It’s been a week to catch up with some films at the cinema and as a result I have reviews of the following four: Rock of Ages, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Men in Black 3 and Snow White and the Huntsman.
Top 5… Films of 2012 so far
We’ve reached the halfway point of the year and it seems the perfect (and popular) time to recap my top 5 films of 2012 so far. I’m not going to bother re-reviewing them at his stage, I’ll just link back to my original articles.
Highlights of the week
So many highlights, so little time! After a quiet week last week the Internet was back with a vengeance this week. I recommend taking a look at everything as there is so much good stuff to see!
Top 5… Vampire movies
This week sees Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter hit the big screen and my expectations are really low. However it was the perfect opportunity to list my top 5 vampire movies. One comment though, I have never seen Fright Night or The Lost Boys so they will be sadly missing from my list.
Highlights of the week
Not many highlights this week but I do promise action, guns and danger with what there is…
Cinema reviews: The best and worst of cinema
It’s a real high and low for reviews this week. The best film I have seen all year and also followed by the worst. They are Jaws and Red Lights. Can you guess which is which?
Top 5… Films from 2005
2005 was apparently a violent and bloody year. Proceed through my top 5 with caution. You have been warned…
Highlights of the week
Not many highlights this week but as usual there’s stuff to make you laugh, gasp and be amazed. Oh, and the new Resident Evil trailer!
Cinema Review: Prometheus
I’d avoided all trailers and reviews of Sir Ridley Scott’s first sci-fi film since Blade Runner and finally caught up with the almost prequel to Alien this week.
Top 5… Musical Movies
Sunday would have been Judy Garland’s 90th birthday and so as I mainly remember her for her musicals I thought I would run down my top 5 movie musicals!
Highlights of the week
Crazy Russians, world records and the beauty of space covered in this week’s highlights.
Cinema reviews: Fighting, bewitching and bit of quirky camping
It has been a while since I got to the cinema and so I’m back with a bumper review post covering The Raid, Dark Shadows and Moonrise Kingdom.
